The Rosetta Stone. No other fragments have been

The Rosetta Stone was an important artifact in Egyptian history. It allows us to translate Egyptian language to English. Before the Rosetta Stone was found we did not know what Egyptian pictures were. Were the pictures objects, sounds or ideas? The Rosetta Stone is a stone that allows us to translate because it had the 3 languages of: Egyptian hieroglyphs, Egyptian Demotic Script and Ancient Greek. The Rosetta Stone is made of granodiorite stele. The stone is a fragment of a bigger stele. The stone is 3 feet 8 inches tall at its highest point. The complete stone is estimated to have been 4 feet 11 inches tall. The Rosetta stone weighs 1,680 lb. The top of the rock suffered a lot of damage. It had the Egyptian hieroglyphs on it but only the last 14 lines are on the stone. The middle text has survived the best. It only has a tiny chunk missing out of the 32 lines. The bottom Greek language has 54 lines with the bottom right corner broken off. By using the bottom two languages we were able to figure out what was missing from the top.  Napoleon Bonaparte found the stone in 1799. The Rosetta Stone was found in a small village in the Delta called Rosetta which is why its called the Rosetta Stone. No other fragments have been found in the Rosetta search area. The stone has been in the British Museum  since 1917, towards the end of WW1.  Many scholars worked on the stone and eventually in 1822 Jean- Francois Champollion realized that the hieroglyphs stood for sounds. With this information  ancient writings could be translated.  Napoleon Bonaparte died in 1821 the 5th of May when he was 51. Egypt wants the stone back. They asked many times before, all declined. The dates that they asked are: 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2013. In 2003 they asked on the British museums 250th anniversary. In 2005, they asked and the British gave them a REPLICA of the stone. Again in 2005 they asked for a 3 month loan. In 2009 they suggested another 3 month loan. 2013, they asked to show it in the grand opening of the Egypt Museum. All of these were denied. So that was all about the Rosetta Stone. I think the Rosetta Stone is VERY important in history because it helped decipher one of the most mysterious countriest in the world.
