The citizens of the United States have the right to keep and bear arms is one of the causes of gun violence. From the outset, people relied on firearms and other weapons to establish the United States. Firearms became a tool in order to prevent the enemy. After that, United States Constitution protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms. Many people can buy guns legally and publicly. The total number of guns does not have the official figure. There are thought to be around 300 million in the US and it is about a third of the population (BBC, 2016). The right of arms plays a crucial role in a prime self-defense. In general, 2.7 million U.S. adults carry a gun for protection on and 5 million of them carries one in a vehicle every day (Kleck, G., & Gertz, M., 1998). Consequently, those believe that people must depend on themselves for protection. The gun owners who are law-abiding citizens possess firearms are a helpful deterrent to crime. For instance, 39 percent of prisoners did not commit a specific crime because they fear the victim was armed (Lapierre, 1995). In the same vein, 57 percent of the typical criminal was scared of being shot by citizens more than by police (Lapierre, 1995). Thus, the use of guns for defensive purposes is universal and effective. It’s possible even against someone bigger or stronger than you.

In addition, the loopholes of gun control makes it easy for people even minors to acquire firearms through evasion of the law. According to the law of the United States, it required background checks for all guns sales (Miller, M., Hepburn, L., & Azrael, D., 2017). Some of the gun owners who acquired their firearms without a background check. They may buy from friends, acquaintance, online shopping, and private sales. Such as 77 percent of those purchased guns from friends or acquaintances in the past two years without background checks(Miller, M., Hepburn, L., & Azrael, D., 2017). Although there are some restrictions to buy guns in America, different the city and state have different laws (Lopez, 2017). These laws have little impact on people who tend to buy guns from street dealers, law-abiding citizens, or private retailers. 42 percent of gun owners acquired their most recent firearm without a background check (Miller, M., Hepburn, L., & Azrael, D., 2017). Even if legitimate gun stores were more strictly regulated, these would not inhibit individual citizens from bartering, or trading. Most of the people can buy a gun without too many problems and a license, and take firearms from the hands of the permit holder or home.
Consequently, the United States government should be strict with people who buy firearms and do not sell guns to minors. First, require background checks for all firearms sales. Comprehensive background check system is a method to prevent gun violence effectively. According to Strategies for Reducing Gun Violence in American Cities SRGVAC (2016), Millions of guns are traded in unlicensed sales each year, without federal background checks. Many of these firearms eventually reach the illegal market. Although Congress has so far failed to remedy the loopholes in federal law, States have taken action. Second, strengthen oversight of gun dealers. The source of the gun plays an important role in gun violence. There are two retail guns business systems. One is firearm retailers which are regulated, and another one based on private firearms which can be anonymous and undocumented (Wintemute, Braga,& Kennedy, 2010). In this case, cities have adopted a variety of law enforcement or educational measures to reduce the flow of firearms to criminals.
