Writing for Audience

The best piece of writing that I read was a novel by Naguib Mahfouz called “Midaq Alley”. This novel is about Egypt during the 1950s and how it is battling between modernity and traditionalism. I loved how Mahfouz drew the setting, portrayed the characters, and incorporated interesting themes throughout his work. I also came to really appreciate his word choice, which was clear and straight to the point.

Naguib Mahfouz is a really great writer. He understands how to describe the difficulty of the Egyptian society. He also creates wonderful characters with whom the reader can connect. One of his greatest novels is “Midaq Alley”, which all people should read.

Your writing is really terrific, Mr. Mahfouz. I love how you include so many clear points and details in your work, pulling the reader into a world that he or she may not share. In addition, I appreciate the themes that you develop, as they really show the authenticity of Egyptian culture. Your words are beautifully arranged on the paper, and have stayed with me long after I put the book down.

“Midaq Alley” has become a classic throughout the world, is one of those rare authors who understands how to attract a reader in a creative way. His books have been known to put one in a state of an imaginary world, by picturing wonderful scenes and characters in your imagination that are not always immediately apparent. Mahfouz is the type of author that all readers will enjoy. All in all, Mahfouz may be Egypt’s greatest writer, but he really is a treasure of world literature.
