Applications of technology to medicine and health care have benefitted humanity in a wider scope. A couple of decade back there was no cure to diseases like cancer but technology’s input to this field introduced so many of those steps which were not possible before the advent of computer sciences. Advancement has also promoted the invention of some very beneficial expert systems to serve clinical guidelines. In this paper we are going to enlighten all the progress in medicine and health care due to technology.
In this paper there are descriptions for many technologies which are being employed in various regions of the world. In the beginning some ways are described for improvement of efficiency, time duration and quality of treatment. Then there are descriptions about ATDM technology, HELP systems, APACHE servers, and some conceptual models of communication which are prevailing in the health care industry. Furthermore some prototype concepts are explained like ‘Who does What for Whom at what Cost and with what Effect’ and prototype systems such as billing information systems and patient tracking systems.
Utilization of EDI systems and Palm Pilots has also been discussed in this paper. Advancement in medical procedures like internet surgery and three dimensional model of image guided surgery is also reviewed. Besides, systems to build artificial limbs and other body parts are also included in discussion as the major technological advancement. Pharmacogenomics using the DNA structure for medical procedures and application of EMR systems provided with the description of CDM technology have also been elaborated in the paper. IVR systems and telemedicine have also been covered.
With all the positive impacts of these inventions there are also some negative implications to applying computer technology which have also enlightened in this paper signifying the impact of computer technology in medicine and healthcare. The use of ATDM technology, EMR systems, IVR systems, different kinds of specialized surgeries, some expert systems and database management systems have facilitated the patients and doctors vitally. Account of these technologies with their potential impacts has been discussed in this paper. Besides all the benefits some of the negative implications that can affect the mankind have also been enlightened.
Quality of Treatment in Healthcare Due to computer technology the quality has progressed in devotion to rules, scrutiny of diseases has enhanced even more, and medication failures have lessened. Precautionary measures in medicine known as primary and secondary preventive care are responsible for most of the improvement in quality. The decreased exploitation of care has been the chief advantage of efficiency in health care. Time exploitation gives a mixed output. As the literature is very general therefore it is regarded as a demerit for not being specific to certain diseases. Parts of data have been collected in health care therefore it needs to have bigger operations in the system, incorporation of new scientific evidences, and activities that manages complex information. Theoretically it was proving many ideas catering health information technology in a better way but practical implementation gave problems and least user confidence.
