As you leave the portals of this institution today, be assured that the intellectual, social and technical skills you have acquired here from the teachers and members of faculty would stand you in good stead. In your career, there will be many professional accomplishments to your credit. Your parents, teachers and alma mater will be proud of your achievements. On this happy occasion, I would like to share a few thoughts of mine with you;• Gandhi-ji said that, “Parents are the first teachers and teachers are the second parents”. Often parents live their dreams through their children. It is not just the amount of finance that they have contributed to your education but it is the time that they have worked hard to acquire it, the time that they have spent in bringing you up, looking after your health and praying for you during your exams, now is the time to show your gratefulness. Before you end your day today, share with them your happiness and express your gratitude• This is also a day that you should look back with gratefulness to everyone – your teacher, your guides, your seniors who have mentored and your alma mater those have made this day possible. All of you will agree with me that today the engineering education in India is at cross roads India produces 1.5 million engineers every year from 4000 institutes. US produces around 1 lakh engineers per year for 16 Trillion economy, compared to 15 lakhs engineers for 2 Trillion economy. Which is a 2 $trillion economy compared to US which produces just 1 lakh engineers per year of 16 trillion $ economy by looking at this statistics any one can make out that there is tremendous mismatch between the demand and supply of engineers and why the engineers are paid low salaryAccording to NACCOM Indian industry employees about 1 lakh engineers and naturally the rest 14 lakhs of engineers look for avenues to get employeed or self employeeDear graduates, you have got responsibility to upgrade your knowledge and acquire entreprenuer skillsAll were mediocre students and had initial series of setbacks in their life before success .You can achieve if you can come out of your comfort zone. • Study for knowledge, not for marks. In the current education system everybody is in a mad rush for marks. Most of the things we studied are for passing the examination than for knowledge, now it’s the time to convert this knowledge into wisdom and wisdom to skills and also to hone your soft skills like listening interpersonal relationship sympathy, empathy etc• Be open to life. As you progress in life, there will be lots of areas of disappointments, failures and stress. It is then important to be having a source of strength and comfort. Hard work never kills anyone, infact worry and worrying about lack of success make people stress. Life is never a bed of roses. Any setback in our lives should be converted to a learning experience, convert the disadvantage to your advantage. • Lastly, Give back to society. While it may not be obvious at a superficial level, we are all the benefactors from the work and sacrifice of a large number of people from the society. Your knowledge, skills and expertise will not have any meaning if it is not beneficial to the person who needs it.• As Winston Churchill said, ” We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give”. Be sure that you will never let go of an opportunity to help a needy soul in your professional life. Nature helps those who help others.I am happy to find a number of girls amongst the graduating students today. Empowered women make for an empowered society. I wish to see this encouraging feature strengthen further in the coming years.Today if you observe Engineering education is at cross roads.
